What should I do if I suspect a problem, but
I'm not sure? |
| |
Many acts of public corruption are
discovered through tips from honest people who are not sure of all the
facts. Even when you have no evidence, you can still
provide a description of your concerns, and why you believe that a crime or
act of public corruption has occurred. |
|
|
| 2. |
How much information should I provide? |
| |
You should include as much information as you are
comfortable providing. Typically, your report should include a detailed
description of your concerns, the names of those involved, and the location
and description of any evidence that may
exist. |
|
|
| 3. |
Will I have to identify myself? |
| |
No. The public corruption hotline is a privately funded
community service for persons seeking an anonymous alternative for reporting
acts of corruption by of against the City of Dallas. You will never be asked
to provide your identity. |
|
|
| 4. |
I'd rather mail my information instead. Is that
possible? |
| |
Yes. Information regarding acts of public corruption can
be sent by mail to Dallas Public Fraud Prevention Services, P.O. Box 455, Addison, Texas,
75001. As a reminder, your report should include a detailed description of
your concerns, the names of those involved, and the location and description of any
evidence
that may exist. |
|
|
| 5. |
Should I send documents that prove my
concerns? |
| |
No. There are laws that govern the gathering of evidence for
use in criminal investigations. Any attempt to gather evidence by people
unfamiliar with these laws could prejudice any criminal investigation and
prosecution. However, a description and location of any physical evidence that may exist will make it easier
for law-enforcement to
investigate your concerns. |
|
|
| 6. |
Will there be an investigation after my
report? |
| |
Information that you send to us regarding acts of public
corruption is reviewed by an experienced fraud
investigator, and then conveyed to the appropriate law-enforcement
agency who then decides what action is
necessary. |
